NatPower UK | John Sturman’s Vision for a Greener Future: Why Renewables Must Go Beyond the 10% Biodiversity Target

The UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries, with less than 53% of its biodiversity remaining. As we push for cleaner energy, the need to protect, restore, and enhance nature has never been more urgent.

In his latest op-ed for Reuters, John Sturman, our UK Managing Director, argues that renewable energy projects should deliver more than the legally required 10% increase in biodiversity. To accelerate the clean energy transition, these projects must create huge natural environment benefits.

 - 100% Biodiversity uplift: clean energy projects should do more for nature, people, and the planet.
-  Local benefits: biodiversity enhancement improves air quality and supports community well-being.
- Community-driven design: collaborating with local communities maximises the benefits of nature enhancements.
